Trails & Pathways

Bredesen TrailTrails and pathways are interchangeable terms. That being said, each and every trail we pave has its own unique set of challenges. Most trails are light-duty pavements designed for golf cart, bicycle, rollerblade, and pedestrian traffic.

Trails often meander in close proximity to trees and landscape, or can be jammed into narrow boulevards that are sometimes perched precariously next to retaining walls and steep slopes.

Gateway TrailThe main challenge lies in that the perfect trail does not account for the relatively large and heavy equipment used to construct the trail. We have paved and maintained trails in some very difficult areas, including one located on an island. Often we have to be innovative and improvise to successfully complete the trail.

For bikers and bladers in particular, smoothness matters. Burrowing rodents such as gophers tunnel under trails, resulting in dips in the pavement. There is a definite long-term benefit of thickening the pavement section because the trail becomes more durable and less prone to movement due to both seasonal fluctuations and gophers. This means a trail stays smooth years after construction.

Valley FairOur efforts have been recognized, as many of our trails are award-winners. Having paved hundreds of trails in all types of conditions, we continue to enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to produce and maintain the perfect trail.
